Songs for Italy: Sounds to prepare for a trip abroad
As I prepared for my trip to Italy I started gathering songs and sounds of what I think of when I think of Italy.
1. Postcards from Italy - Beirut
This song has been on my mind the moment I started thinking about Italy as my next travel destination. Listening to the song reminds me of adventure, summer warm breezes and love.
2. Gibraltar - Beirut
The beat reminded me of ponding the pavement in the hot sun. Beirut has a knack for creating music to travel to.
3. On An Evening in Roma by Dean Martin
While Rome is not on my itinerary, I think fondly of the lyrics and the possibility of travel.
4. Finiculi, Finicula by Giuseppe De Stefano
This one is purely personal: last time I was in Italy, over the long New Year’s weekend last year this was the first song I heard well give me 2018. It reminds me of the lovely couple who welcomed me into their home, the dear friend I was visiting, as well as my first time in northern Italy.
5. Ciao Rudy Questo si chiama amore by Marcello Mastroianni
I have to admit: I have a crush on Marcello Mastroianni! Well I have a crush on myself starting over X movies and was classic Italian play boy/charmer. I watched many of his movies before I was in Milan and I can’t not include a mention of him on my list.
6. Tired Tourists (from the film Houseboat) by Sophia Loren
Sophia Loren was not in but a strong face I couldn’t leave her off of this brief list. I suppose I also intend to be a tired tourist by the end of each day on the road.
7. The Four Season, Winter by Vivaldi
Another confession: I have a crush documentary Chef‘s Table on Netflix. After watching Chef Nancy Silverton‘s episode, it inspired me to select Florence as the basis and longest part of my trip Lastly, if you know anything about Chef’s Table anything about me, you can probably guess what inspired me to go to Modena. ❤️
I plan to put together a post-trip playlist, after experiencing it and what sounds feel like they fit
after being away. Listen to to the full list and more below!
